founder of LURNT

Christopher Wong

technology entrepreneur and avid redditor

With over ten years of experience in the education field, Christopher Wong has spent most of his adult working life in front of learners one way or another.  From teaching information technology to administrative staff of an NGO in Burkina Faso, to teaching middle school students in Japan, to volunteering as an English instructor on a cruise ship called Peaceboat, to teaching youth in the high Arctic of Nunavut, to organizing fifteen participants as a leader and driver on a cross-Canada youth bus service trip,  and finally as a middle school science teacher at an Independent school in Vancouver, he feels most at home in a community of learners.

He has a solid background in the world of  business and education with undergraduate  degrees in commerce and education.  As well, he is currently working towards his Masters of Educational Technology from UBC.  Bringing an innovative perspective to education, he seeks to continuously improve his teaching methodology and enhance his classroom in order to achieve a classroom of twenty-first century learners who can take charge of their own learning.  Often times these solutions can be found in new approaches to technology.  He has kept abreast of latest educational trends and has developed a critical eye towards finding technology that provides true value while quickly identifying fads and ineffective uses of technology that while novel do not engage true learning.

LURNT was developed from the hours of frustration of having to search for supplemental educational resources for students who had difficulty understanding classroom concepts.  Resources were often too high level, of poor quality or not engaging enough.  Often times Christopher observed it was the students themselves who could collectively find better resources that helped them understand the topic at hand.  Thus, the first inklings of LURNT were born.

Christopher has spent the past three months carefully refining his plans to launch LURNT.  With beta testing almost complete, he believes now is the time to seek investment from educational entrepreneurs who share him dream of making the leading repository of educational resources in North America and perhaps the world.
